Senior Director, Global Marketing (Location: San Francisco, CA)

Job Description: This position leads the San Francisco Travel Marketing Communications department and is responsible for development and implementation of marketing programs and services for Meetings & Conventions, Leisure Travel, Travel Trade and Global Partnerships. The Senior Director oversees marketing operations to ensure delivery of internal clients' projects and external deliverables. Collaborates cross-divisionally as in-house agency for the organization. The position is based in San Francisco.

What you will be doing:

  • In collaboration with the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), develop the annual marketing plan and budget for both leisure and group markets.
  • With oversight from the CMO, manage marketing communications, creative services, and international B2C budgets and reconciliation.
  • Manage and operate the San Francisco Travel Marketing Communications team, including Web Development, Brand & Design, Social Media, Digital Marketing, Advertising, Content and Publications.
  • Oversee development, maintenance, and marketing of the destination’s website. With Director, Web Services and Director, Design, ensure the website is a solid extension of the brand image. Ensure the website is optimized for engagement, conversion and ease of use. Oversee web agency to ensure development, maintenance and special projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Oversee management of the organization's B2B and B2C social media channels. Provide strategic guidance to the Manager, Digital and Social Media Marketing to ensure channels are optimized for engagement and driving website visits in both paid and organic efforts.
  • With the Director, Design, ensure that in-house and agency-produced creative assets reflect the destination brand and follow brand identity guidelines.
  • With Sr. Manager, Content and Communications and the content services team, develop and execute annual "always on" content plan. Oversee management of publications agency to ensure revenue opportunities are maximized and product aligns with brand.
  • In collaboration with the CMO, Tourism Development and international agencies, develop and execute integrated marketing programs in key global markets. Oversee campaign extensions with Brand USA, the official marketing organization for the US.
  • Working with the VP of Global Partnerships, create and implement high-impact domestic and international campaigns that showcase the city's distinctive features and attract global visitors while creating opportunities for sponsorships that drive revenue for the organization.
  • Provide monthly reporting to the CMO on key performance indicators and web analytics.
  • Oversee domestic media planning and buying in-house, working with outside vendors to optimize performance regularly throughout life the campaign.
  • Day to day management of global media planning and buying and creative agencies.

Attributes and Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in tourism marketing at a Director or Sr. Director level.
  • Data driven strategic planning experience, with marketing/creative vision; using data to back up assertions/vision.
  • Extensive experience in media buying, negotiating media rates, performance tracking and analyzing the success of campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience managing external vendors, including agencies, marketing technology providers, and media vendors.
  • Deep understanding of SEO best practices, content marketing strategies, and digital marketing tools and platforms.
  • Proven ability to create and optimize marketing and affiliate programs that drive revenue.
  • Excellent writing and content creation skills, with a portfolio of successful marketing campaigns. You love a good story and know how to effectively communicate it.
  • Candidate should have experience managing a high-performing marketing team with limited resources.
  • Self-motivated individual with proven ability to lead through influence and persuasion.
  • Creative thinker and problem solver with great energy and passion.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Meta Business Manager, G4, all social media platforms, content creation best practices, email service providers such as Active Campaign.
  • Experience in Drupal CMS highly desired.

Remote Work Policy: Employees of San Francisco Travel are required to be in-the-office a minimum of 4-days per week per company policy, which is subject to change.

Compensation: The total compensation range, which includes base salary and targeted incentive/bonus is $155,000 to $170,000. Health care and other benefits are in addition to the listed compensation range.
