Events at San Francisco’s Convention Center Generated an Estimated $174 Million in Economic Impact in the First Quarter of 2025

SF Travel reports Q1 year-over-year increases in economic impact and total attendees

San Francisco (April 15, 2025) –In the first three months of 2025, San Francisco’s Moscone Center hosted eight events catering to industries ranging from technology and healthcare to sports, including the NBA All-Star Fan Experience. These events generated an estimated $174 million in economic impact for the city and drew more than 126,000 attendees.

The estimated economic impact from events held in the first quarter at the city-owned Moscone Center was up 12.2% compared to the same period last year, while the total estimated attendees increased by 52.5%.

“We’ve started the year strong with a convention schedule that demonstrates San Francisco’s unique ability to attract major events, no matter the industry,” said Anna Marie Presutti, President and CEO of the San Francisco Travel Association. “Conventions are foundational to San Francisco’s tourism industry and support our small businesses, restaurants, bars, and cultural institutions.”

From Jan. 1 through March 29, hotel occupancy increased 3.1% to 60.6% year-over-year, while the average daily rate increased 2.8% to $282.49 year-over-year.

San Francisco’s convention industry will continue to drive impact in the second quarter, with Moscone Center set to host nine events over the next three months. Upcoming conventions include RSAC Conference, Snowflake Summit and the Data + AI Summit.

“San Francisco is open for business—and the numbers prove it. Our administration has been working every day to deliver safe, clean streets, and the message is starting to resonate,” said San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie. “These events are fueling our city’s comeback, supporting local jobs, while driving business to our hotels, restaurants, and neighborhoods. There’s no better place than San Francisco to gather, innovate, and experience the energy of a world-class city.”

San Francisco will host 32 events at the Moscone Center this year, up from 25 events in 2024. Hotel room nights associated with the events are forecast to increase by over 70% compared to 2024, accounting for 670,000 room nights.
